About the League of Hangzhou Student Orchestras
The League of Hangzhou Student Orchestras (LHSO) was established and is also co-sponsored by Hangzhou No. 2 High School of Zhejiang Province, Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra, Baochu Pagoda Experimental School Hangzhou, Hangzhou Jianlan Middle School, Hangzhou Jiangnan Experimental School of Zhejiang, and Hangzhou No. 2 High School Baimahu. Holding dear the principles of cooperation, openness, collaboration, and sharing resources, the league regularly welcomes and develops members from outstanding school-level orchestras, wind orchestras, and string orchestras.
The preparation and planning work for the League of Hangzhou Student Orchestras began at the end of 2020. LHSO was officially established in April of 2022 and has 96 current members. By leveraging the artistry and prestigious influence of the Hangzhou Philharmonic Orchestra as a first-class symphony orchestra in China, LHSO has built its own system and management model which it continues to improve upon as China’s first student orchestra league through teacher training, educational exchanges, performances, and integration of resources. It not only involves exploration on how art and education can be integrated, but it also helps to introduce music to young people, cultivating students’ interest in learning art, improving their music literacy, and promoting the integration and effective application of art in junior high schools and high schools. LHSO contributes to the education and popularization of student orchestras throughout Hangzhou, helping to make Hangzhou a first-class city attaining impeccable cultural standards.
